History

Opening a funeral home has been a life-long goal, and with the encouragement and support of family and friends, it became a reality in 2005.

Tammy Chadbourne had a life long goal of opening a funeral home, and with the encouragement of family and friends it became a reality. Graduated Cum Laude from the New England Institute, in Boston, in 1988. With more than 30 years of experience in the Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire regions as a funeral director, embalmer and staff manager, Chadbourne said she is “committed to providing every family with the caring service they deserve, be it before, during or after a service.”

“Taking care of my families is the most important aspect of funeral service for me. It is an honor to care for a family’s loved one; for me, funeral service has always been a calling and not just a job.”

Tammy decided to open a funeral home in Alfred because the community “has such a nice feel to it,” especially the historic district. Alfred and the surrounding communities are growing. Opening Autumn Green gives people in our local area a choice. We are a welcomed part of this town and its surrounding communities. We are a full-service funeral home, before, during and after a service because we believe that a funeral is more than just a two or three-day process. We want to help create a service within everyone’s means that is both unique and personal.

Our Name

Autumn is the prettiest time of year in New England. As the leaves change color, each one becomes unique, just as each person is unique. The colors and textures of life testify to each person’s individuality.

The words “Autumn” and “Green” is in honor of Tammy Chadbourne’s mother, Gwendolyn M. (Cluff) Chadbourne. Autumn was her favorite season and Green was her favorite color. She believed in Tammy and supported her, and she remains a part of Tammy’s inspiration.
